Community Coalition for Housing and Homelessness (CCHH)

Written by

This is a program that is not new to the Community Youth Network, but very little people in Corner Brook are aware of the options for those who are homeless. It is a committee that is made up of community organizations that advocate for the needs and issues of homelessness. The committee meets monthly to discuss the current issues and develops solutions to help those individuals affected. There are also organizations around town that are partnered with CYN that have the ability to house these individuals. There have been many events and initiatives raising awareness on the issue in Corner Brook. Some initiatives in the past have been the CBC pancake breakfast, Habitat for Humanity, Raising the Roof Tuque Campaign, and Sleep out 24.  In the summer, you are more likely to see those who have no home and are searching for a place to stay. In the winter these people seem to "disappear", but the problem doesn’t. This organization offers initiatives toward safe housing to whoever needs it, when it is an emergency situation.

If you know someone who is in need of housing NOW, whether they are couch surfing or wondering the streets contact the Community Youth Network at 639-1720.

Opening of Updated Skatepark

Written by

The Corner Brook skatepark had been closed temporarily for the installation of new ramp equipment. On June 27, 2012 the park reopened to the public. The new ramps were a success, which attracted over 50 youth to the park on a hot and sunny day. The City of Corner Brook was pleased with the results and deemed it money well spent. There are more updates to come in the future, which includes additional equipment, garbage receptacles, landscaping and new fencing.

There is still much more work to do and the city needs help from its citizens. Currently the park is entered in the TSN Sportscenter and Kraft Celebration Tour contest, along with hundreds of other skateparks all over Canada. In each province one skatepark will be awarded $25 000 towards new updates. You're probably asking what can you do? Go to and share this page on facebook and write on the nomination wall. By doing this you are placing a vote and increasing the chances of Corner Brook winning, out of the 18 towns in Newfoundland.

Also, if you know someone who would like to host an event to raise funds for this cause, contact Lisa Osmond at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by phone 639-1720

   More updates to come!!
